August 4, 2019 – Unity Amidst Forgiveness by Pastor Duane Adler

Ephesians 4:17-32

As believers, we are not required to create unity… but we are required to keep the unity that is already ours in and through Jesus.

Unity is an organic oneness based on Jesus as the common center by the Holy Spirit at work in and through a believer.

“A Christian’s uniqueness in the world should be apparent in his or her morality, mood, money, mouth, and manners.”
– Dr. David Jeremiah

  • Putting away lying and putting on truthfulness (v25)
  • Be angry, and do not sin (v26)

“Anybody can become angry – that is easy; but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way – that is not easy.”
– Aristotle

  • Do not let the sun go down on your wrath (v26)
  • Nor give place to the devil (v27)
  • Let him who stole steal no longer (v28)
  • Rather let him labor (v28)
  • Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth (v29)
  • But what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers (v29)
  • Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (v30)
  • Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice (v31)
  • Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you (v32)

If you’re upset with someone or if past injustices have left a bitter taste in your heart, think about how wonderfully God has forgiven you.

  • Visualize His grace.
  • Utilize His clear path to grace: Forgiveness.

“Whatever has happened in your past, remember that you are the loser if you do not deal with an unforgiving spirit.”
– Charles Stanley, The Gift of Forgiveness
