God purposely created us so that we would be his image bearers, emissaries for ruling over creation, reflectors of his glory, and worshipers of him. Since God created everything with purpose and functionality, he created the woman to be the indispensable companion for the man. Interestingly, God places the institution of marriage into the creation account in order to establish its permanency.
But is it possible to have a Christ-honoring and meaningful marriage within this cultural climate? The current question, confusion, and debate over marriage is not due to a flaw in God’s creation, but rather the result of the power and destruction of sin. Consequently, living life from God’s perspective demands that the foundation of marriage be aligned with God’s intended purpose and function rather than its cultural counterpart.
A strong marriage requires:
I. Understanding the creation account – Genesis 2:24-25
(God’s intention supersedes human intellect)
II. Examining God’s anticipation – Ephesians 5:33
(God’s formula supersedes selfish intention)
III. Battling sinful advances – Proverbs 7:6-27
(God’s grace supersedes our selfish impulse)
