Christ’s Power Source for Life and Ministry

Luke 4:14-15
One temptation confronting the believer, living in a pluralistic society, is to look for the most pragmatic path for success and pursue it at all cost, even if it is not biblical. Similarly, the most pragmatic path for Jesus would have been His adopting the cultural overemphasis on achieving righteousness by the Law; fortunately, Jesus was not pursuing cultural acceptance but rather acceptance of God’s truth. In this section, we see Luke brilliantly placing several narratives together, intending to teach the importance of Jesus Christ’s power source.

The power source:
I. Unveiling the identity of the power source
A. The Holy Spirit – Luke 3:22; 4:1, 14, 18
B. The Scriptures – Luke 4:4, 8, 12, 15, 25-27, 31-32

II. Unveiling the involvement of the power source (cf., Acts 10:38; 1 Peter 2:21)
A. Sufficient to defeat Satan – Luke 4:1-13
B. Sufficient for proclaiming truth – Luke 4:16-27
C. Sufficient for protecting life – Luke 4:28-30
