Lessons from the Tower by Dr. Glenn Jago

“Lessons from the Tower”

Genesis 11:1-9

It is hard to overstate the importance for the believer to be disciplined for the purpose of godliness (1 Tim 4:7) when living life from God’s perspective. Essentially, each of us must “properly address the spiritual condition of our soul” if we are to stand against the strong attractions of a secular worldview. This weight of conviction is evidenced from the failure of humanity as they are caught up in replacing the all-powerful God for a god of their own design. The lessons from the tower stand as a reminder of three very important truths necessary for standing strong in godliness.

  1. The development of the nations – Genesis 10:1-32
    1. Intention – 9:19; 10:32; Acts 17:26
    2. Insight into the nations – 10:2-5, 6-20, 21-31
  2. The dispersion of the nations – Genesis 11:1-9
    1. The unity of human achievement – 11:2-4
    2. The unity of divine assessment – 11:5-8
  • The decision for one nation – Genesis 11:10-26
    1. Following the seed – 11:10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26; Luke 3:34-36
    2. From seeds to seed – Galatians 3:16

Truths to consider:

  1. Sin left unrestrained by God will know no boundaries – Romans 1:18-21
  2. Striving by human achievement will produce idolatry – Romans 1:22-25
  3. Salvation is always the exclusive result of the work of God – 2 Timothy 1:8-11
