The Gospel’s Unified Message of Hope by Dr. Glenn Jago

Galatians 3:6-18

The reality of actually living deeply rooted in the Gospel is not determined by obedience to the Old Testament law but rather by means of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This sacrifice results in believers, through faith in Christ, being declared righteous by God. These believers are no longer under the curse of the law, but are dramatically transformed from the inside out; consequently, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in them and their new identity is in Jesus Christ. No wonder Satan attacks the messenger and the message of the Gospel with deceptions and false ideologies.

In this passage, Paul takes us on an invigorating journey through the Old Testament by connecting the current message of the Gospel of Christ crucified, to the ancient message of the Gospel of God to Abraham. Thus, Paul provides a ready defense for the Gospel by means of three unifying connections designed to reinforce our absolute confidence in Paul’s Gospel.

The connections:

  1. The blessing connected with Abraham – Galatians 3:6-9; Gen. 15:6; 12:3; Hab. 2:4
  2. The curse connected with the law – Galatians 3:10-14; Deut. 27:26; Lev. 18:5; Deut. 21:23
  3. The promise connected with Christ – Galatians 3:15-18; Gen. 12:7; 13:15; 17:8; 3:15
